World Environment Day

05/06/2023

World Environment Day, a day on which we draw extra attention to the importance of the environment for our planet and our society. Everyone is responsible for our earth and its resources. This blog offers a glimpse of our own efforts.

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), with genuine concern for ‘People, Planet & Prosperity’ is gaining more and more importance. Both in society and the government. Pami did not wait for this to happen - quite the contrary. Since as far back as 2013, PAMI has been the only Belgian company in its sector with a CSR Performance Ladder certificate, independently issued by Kiwa. For Pami, being conscious of the impact of our activities is far from a hollow concept. The efforts below are testament to this.

Electricity

Pami has managed to systematically reduce its electricity consumption since 2006, despite a growth in revenue of 120% during the same period. Our total electricity consumption dropped by 43.5%, while our consumption per €100 of revenue fell by 62%. Moreover, as of 2023, we are generating an impressive third of our electricity with our own solar panels.

Natural gas

When it comes to natural gas, we see the same reduction - contrary to what one might expect based on our growth. This reduced consumption automatically leads to reduced emissions too. We ensure these emissions are always well below the legally permitted values.

CO2

The spectacular drop in our electricity and gas consumption has resulted in a reduction of our CO2 emissions by more than 40%. It is our ambition to be carbon-neutral by 2026.

Process water

Thanks to thorough optimisation of our production processes and a sophisticated degreasing installation, we now only use a third of the process water we did in 2006. The small residual waste water stream from the degreasing process is disposed of by an authorised processor. As a result, Pami has been officially recognised as a ‘zero discharger’.

Cardboard

We have reduced our cardboard consumption by 76% in 15 years. What’s more, the cardboard we use is made from 100% recycled material. All cardboard used is returned to our assembly team for sorting and reuse.

Plastics

Conscious product development has allowed us to drastically reduce the use of plastics in recent years. What’s more, the plastics we do use are 100% recyclable.

Sustainable forest management

Our forest management system has carried the PEFC label (Programme for Endorsement of Forest Certification) since 2011. Thanks to this certificate, we are able to offer our customers wood products from sustainably managed forests at no extra cost.

Recycling

Thanks to the use of high-end, high-quality materials, our products have an extremely long lifespan as well as being 100% recyclable. This means that at the end of the life cycle, PAMI commits to taking back its products for recycling.

Circular

Pami only recycles as a very last resort. As an office furnisher and workspace designer, we highly value circular thinking and production. For example, by working on smart eco-design, life cycle extension, reusability, etc. Our vertical integration, including our in-house R&D and production, makes it easier to reuse or re-manufacture goods. ISO 14001 certificate

PAMI was the first in our sector in Belgium to obtain the ISO 14001 certificate back in 2003. This is the ultimate proof that our commitment to reducing our impact on the environment on a continuous basis is deeply rooted in our genes.
